10 Harry Potter Movie Changes That Went Too Far
5. Short-Changing Ginny
The character of Ginny Weasley—snarky, witty, and more than able to stand up for herself—makes for a pretty superb foil to the sometimes too-perfect figure of Hermione in the original novels, but despite the best attempts of actor Bonnie Wright, very little of this character makes it into her movie incarnation.
Both her brasher moments and her more humanizing traits, from befriending the resident oddball Luna Lovegood to telling off her over-protective brother when he takes an interest in her love life, were excised for time in the film adaptations, resulting in a vital character—the hero’s eventual love interest—being reduced to a damp squib background character.
