4. Speed Racer

It can be difficult to live up to your reputation, just ask the Wachowski siblings.

After the success of The Matrix, it was difficult for the Wachowski's to do anything else without it being compared to Neo and friends. A good example of this comes in the form of the 2008 flick, Speed Racer.

Speed Racer centered around a young automobile racer who decides to follow in the footsteps of his apparently dead brother's career. The movie bombed, despite it also starring Hollywood heavyweights such as Emile Hirsche, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, and Susan Sarandon.

But is it really that bad? Not at all. Speed Racer is unique in its own right, and as soon as people stop comparing it to the Matrix then they will fully appreciate it for what it is. it isn't trying to break boundaries, it isn't trying to reinvent a new genre, it is simply about a boy driving a car and that's what makes it so good. The movie is also aesthetically pleasing, it looks like a cartoon but in the movie world, a modern-day Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Plus, the soundtrack is so good that it is worth watching just for that.

These days, Speed Racer has created a somewhat cult following, which, as we all know, is only a good sign that something is actually pretty good and just misunderstood by the masses.
