Perhaps the only thing funnier than Jean-Claude Van Damme's unintentionally hilarious dance routine in Kickboxer is the mullet he proudly sports in Hard Target, Hong Kong action director John Woo's first foray into Hollywood filmmaking. Van Damme plays Chance Boudreaux, a down on his luck merchant seaman who finds himself caught up in an elite group of hunters who pay huge sums of money to track and kill the homeless through the streets of New Orleans. The organization is run by Emil Fouchon, played by Lance Henriksen in full-on psychotic mode. Van Damme's performance is par for the course ( outside of JCVD I've yet to notice any real distinction between any of his movie incarnations) and the script contains some laughably bad moments, but when it comes to action Woo delivers the goods - Face/Off aside, this is his best Hollywood action movie to date.
