6. Mon Mon Mon Monsters! (2017)
Audiences are used to getting their horror movies from places like Hollywood or Japan. But, one untapped creator of nightmares is the country of Taiwan. Their cinematic exploits have a firm finger on the pulsing heart of the horror genre (you can check some out here). Still, of all their exploits, this movie takes the crown for being the goofiest.
Mon Mon Mon Monsters depicts the events after a boy is forced to perform community service with a group of bullies. After they stumble across a young monster, they kidnap and torture her, taking full advantage of her healing abilities. Of course, they've some significant problems to contest, such as their morality and the creature's sister, who is searching for her.
The film gets you giggling thanks to the silliness of the characters. While they're all rather reprehensible, they've still got plenty of chemistry and high energy, which sucks you into their exploits.
But, of course, it's also a disturbing watch. Seeing these maniacal youngsters torturing this beast makes you feel sick to your stomach. Never before have you sympathised more with a monster than humans. Plus, there's a busload of blood (quite literally in the case of one scene) which will get your heart racing.
