10 Hidden Horror Movie Gems Nobody Talks About
5. Pontypool
Somewhat ironically on a list of movies nobody talks about, we have a horror film concerned with the very dangers of opening your mouth.
2008's Pontypool is one of the most uniquely, ingeniously premised horror films ever, centered around a deadly virus spreading throughout a small Ontario town. If that logline sounds familiar, the kicker is that the virus spreads through the English language, forcing shock jock protagonist Grant (Stephen McHattie) and his fellow survivors to find increasingly creative ways to communicate with each other.
Terrifically acted by the great Stephen McHattie, while proving the merits of a brilliant idea no matter the budget, Pontypool is an uncommonly gripping low-fi horror that finds a totally original niche through which to depict a viral outbreak.
Though director Bruce McDonald finally released a spin-off, Dreamland, in 2019, a direct sequel called Pontypool Changes has been in development ever since the original's release, yet sadly still hasn't come to pass.
