3. 9 1/2 Weeks (1986)
Directed by the tastefully kinky Adrian Lyne, 9 1/2 weeks is a blast from the past that I'm sure we all have fond memories of perving over. It chronicles the short relationship between Elizabeth (Kim Basinger - an art gallery employee) and John (Mickey Rourke - a Wall Street guy). Their relationship is kinky and volatile but John pushes Elizabeth's sexual and emotional boundaries to extort ever more sexual gratification for himself. The relationship is ultimately doomed. Erotic highlights include: playing about with blindfolds, playing about with food, Kim Basinger playing about with herself, playing about in public places, playing about with a horse whip, playing about with a lesbian prostitute, playing about until they were played out. Yes I listed all of the kinky sex acts, but 9 1/2 weeks is a study of power and control. It does deal with the darker side of relationships but fair play to Adrian Lyne for showing this because it is a topic that most writers and directors shy away from. The film has lost none of its erotic power. It is very fantastically 1980s but it is great to see a pre-deformed Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger never looked better. The sex scenes are a little outrageous (food sex has never appealed to me - too messy) but they remain their kinky power to titillate.
