10 Hollywood Actors Who Have Appeared In Doctor Who
5. Sir Ian McKellen
"HE SHALL NOT PASS!"... as a Doctor Who guest star, according to the technicalities. And to all intents and purposes, i's true. It's not like Sir Ian McKellen has actually been seen in an episode of Doctor Who (well, not yet at least...), but he's certainly been heard in one, which still counts. Besides, he could literally stand in the background of a scene wearing a sack and still be considered as a bonafide Doctor Who guest star, because that's basically just how awesome he is. A recipient of 6 Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award (to name but a few!), Ian's booming and iconic voice brought the sinister Snowmen to life in the 2012 Doctor Who Christmas Special which just goes to show that big name actors are so eager to appear in the series that they'll even sign up to voice frozen foes (whilst simultaneously tarnishing your childhood memories of the beloved Raymond Briggs classic in the process). Still, if you actually like to watch actors when they perform, you're not exactly stuck for choice when it comes to Ian McKellen's rapacious résumé. His formidable filmography is longer than that beard he wore as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings/Hobbit trilogies (and just as unpredictable) with his work spanning an array of genres ranging from Shakespearean to science fiction. In short, Ian is a man who can take over the world as the malevolent Magneto in the X-Men movies and then go for a pint at the Rover's Return in Coronation Street and absolutely kill it in both. Let's hope he returns to the Whoniverse one day to a slightly less... frosty reception.
