10 Home Invasion Movies Where The Invader Is The Victim
8. The Collector (2009)
Having targeted the home of a wealthy family he works for in order to steal their priceless ruby and pay off his and his wife's debts, Arkin O'Brien (Josh Stewart) haplessly happens to break in on the same night as serial killer the Collector (Juan Fernandez). It's every thief's worst nightmare, and a big social faux pas in the underworld community, but also nearly the end of Arkin altogether.
Turning from malignant zero to all-out victim and borderline hero, Arkin has to fight for not just his own life, or his wife's life - who, while not present at the trapped-out house of murder and misery, is being circled by loan sharks with a tight deadline - but also the lives of the Chase family whom, although he is willing to rob, he doesn't actually hate.
The monster at the heart of it all is a fellow blue-collar worker at the Chase home and collector of people rather than, say, priceless gems. Despite his best efforts, Arkin becomes another victim and plaything for the masked maniac, making it out the other side of the film inside the Collector's trunk.
