Maybe not for the reasons Lars Von Trier and his lead actress, Charlotte Gainsbourg intended as Antichrist will always remain known as the film in which a woman, with a pair of scissors, cuts off her clitoris. Lars Fon Trier is no stranger to controversy, but this scene, the other scene of genital mutilation in the movie and the film's general attitude towards women brought a lot of heat down on the Dane. The mutilation scene isn't just implied by noise and facial expression, it is exposed to the audience in graphic detail. The sound of the scene itself is horrifying as the snipping of the scissors cuts right through you and the screaming feels like it has been going on for an eternity. It's quite a distressing scene, and one you spend nights haunted by, begging to unsee, but once you've seen it, you'll never forget it. Gainsbourg, to her credit, gives an incredibly brave performance, and her performance is the only worthwhile thing in the whole film.
