10 Horror Films Much Weirder Than You Remember

7. Critters

Pet Sematary Zelda
New Line Cinema

In this campy sci-fi comedy, a quaint town is invaded by little extra-terrestrials called Krites. Despite their diminutive stature, these toothy furballs cause total anarchy, terrorising and murdering the locals.

Even though Critters has some decent moments, it's a pretty unmemorable flick. Those who haven't seen it in a while mightn't recall much, save for the scene when one of the space porcupines drops the F-bomb.

As such, it's easy to forget about the other aliens in the story. The first character introduced is Zanti, who resembles Jabba the Hutt on a motorised wheelchair. When two humanoids appear with green, featureless faces, some viewers will think they've put on the wrong movie.

During this prologue, it's explained that these three aliens have been tasked with keeping the Krites imprisoned on a meteor. When the critters escape to Earth, Zanti sends his faceless bodyguards there, where they take on the form of '80s rockstars.

Even though Zanti and the bounty hunters' designs are trippy as hell, the story could've worked without them, which is why they don't leave as big of an impression as they should.
