10 Horror Films That Are Really Something Else

1. Tetsuo: The Iron Man

In Tetsuo: The Iron Man, a businessman finds himself transforming into a rusty monstrosity, after he accidentally kills a metal fetishist.

Based on that madcap premise, one would expect Tetsuo to be abnormal. But this Japanese cyberpunk movie isn't just weird. It's cinematic chaos. It's beautifully apocalyptic. Every shot is so anarchic, it's feels like the director, Shin'ya Tsukamoto, transferred his kaleidoscopic and unfiltered imagination to the screen.

Many sequences are filmed in high-speed stop-motion to accentuate the already baffling imagery and on top of that, Tetsuo never lets up. There are no quiet moments to let viewers digest the ins-and-outs of the story. It's relentless from beginning to end. If you've made the conscious decision to bear witness to raw insanity for the next 67 minutes, you better strap in.

Like a dream, Tsukamoto's crown jewel isn't meant to be comprehended, but experienced. To find any deeper meaning in Tetsuo: The Iron Man should be considered a bonus. But while watching two mountains of metal smash into each other, it's probably better to go with the flow, rather than try to dissect it.
