10 Horror Films That Wasted Their Villain
4. The Djinn - Wishmaster
Though tough to categorise as a good film, Wishmaster nevertheless has a cult of passionate fans, largely due to Andrew Divoff's sublimely committed performance as the villainous djinn - the wish-granting evil genie whose endgame involves enslaving all of Earth.
Even when the film is at its absolute stupidest and verges into outright camp, his delicious performance keeps it tethered to the otherworldly, ensuring the djinn is at once amusing and terrifying.
Divoff returned for the first sequel, though for reasons unknown didn't come back for the third and fourth films, where he was replaced by John Novak.
Considering that Divoff is the djinn, these already-wretched sequels lost their sole source of appeal, and within five years of the original film, the franchise had died a death.
In recent years Divoff has talked-up the prospect of returning for a fifth film, which is pretty much the only piece of news that could interest anyone in another Wishmaster sequel.
