10 Horror Final Girls Who Didn't Survive Their Movie
2. Helen Lyle - Candyman
Summoning a big old urban legend that's renowned for killing those that bring him forth from the grave is definitely a surefire way of getting yourself killed in a horror movie, so Helen can't really blame anyone other than herself for this one. Writing a thesis on how the legend of the Candyman has been used to cope with hardships in a housing project, Helen discredits his legend which he has worked so hard to maintain - causing Mr. Candyman to go out for some killing to convince the masses of his prowess once more.
Helen is taken along for the ride and implicated in his bloody dealings, framed as responsible despite knowing the truth of Candyman. After a lot of back and forth on making residents scared once again, the film climaxes with Helen saving a stolen baby from a fire started by Candyman, and she dies in the process.
Rather than a redemptive death however, Helen is given immortality as an urban legend of her own making, posed as a vengeful spirit and taking out her cheating husband as a first port of call. If you're going to die, might as well make it impressive, eh?
