10 Horror Franchises That Ended Too Soon

1. Gremlins

Seriously, here we are, 30 years on from the last cinematic outing for the Gremlins series, and audiences are still clamouring for another Gremlins movie.

Is Gremlins an out-and-out horror franchise? More horror-comedy, to be accurate. Well, unless you first saw Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch when you were a kid - in which case, those pictures may well have scared the pants off you.

Either way, it's unbelievable that a third Gremlins movie has yet to be served up. And it's not just fans who have constantly talked up the prospect of a third film, for star Zach Galligan, property creator Chris Columbus, and even Warner Bros. have all made moves to get a third Gremlins offering off the ground.

Most recently, Columbus talked in 2017 about how he had a dark and twisted script in development for Gremlins 3. Instead of New York City, this third Gremlins film was being mooted as being set in Las Vegas. Yet three years later, there's still been no solid movement on a new Gremlins.

As it stands, it looks like we're destined to never get the Gremlins 3 so many of us have long yearned for. Which if indeed that is the case, is a crying shame for a franchise that's still so beloved to this day.
