10 Horror Movie Answers Fans Had To Wait For
9. The Entity's True Name - Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin
After Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity made an exorbitant profit, the spooky found-footage flick was quickly turned into a franchise. To keep things fresh, the follow-ups threw in a gaggle of new ideas, including witches, portals, and a bit of time travel for good measure.
The sequels also expanded on the most pivotal detail, the spirit itself. Though the supernatural entity has possessed people, taken innocent lives, and kidnapped babies, its origins or true intentions weren't disclosed in the first film.
In the later movies - primarily Next of Kin - the so-called ghost was revealed to be The King of Demons, Asmodeus. Many years ago, Asmodeus' enemies trapped his essence inside a woman's body, knowing he can only access his full power while possessing a male vessel. Since Asmodeus could only pass his spirit through this woman's bloodline, he had to wait until a male was born within the family to regain his power.
Katie from the first movie is the ancestor of Asmodeus' first female vessel, which is why the Demon King encouraged her to steal her sister's son in Paranormal Activity 2. It's an intriguing backstory, but it's also a pretty convoluted one.
