Takashi Miike's Audition follows Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi), a middle-aged widower who seeks out a new wife, and embarks on a relationship with an alluring new prospect, Asami (Eihi Shiina).

However, Asami is eventually revealed to be a sadistic, jealously psychopathic serial killer, who ends up drugging Shigeharu and injecting him with a paralytic agent, leaving him unable to fight back against her while fully conscious of what she does to him.

And what does she do? As nobody who's ever seen Audition can surely forget, Asami begins by torturing him with acupuncture needles before methodically amputating his left foot with a wire saw.

Shigeharu is only saved from being enslaved and presumably later murdered by Asami by his son, Shigehiko (Tetsu Sawaki), who intervenes, attacks Asami, and kicks her down the stairs, killing her.

Were it not for his son's timely save, Shigeharu would've been just another one of Asami's many victims.
