In his quest to find lost young girl Rowan Morrison, Edward Woodward's Sgt. Howie sought out advice in all the wrong places in The Wicker Man.

Upon landing at the remote Hebridean island of Summerisle, it becomes clear to Howie that this tiny community is not quite as idyllic as it may seem. The island's dedication to a Pagan way of life goes against Howie's devout Christian beliefs, but that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Woodward's god-fearing lawman is first shunted by the missing girl's mother, yet it's heading to the island's school that really puts things in a spin for Howie. Seeking advice on what may have happened to Rowan, the Sgt. finds a classroom that denies the girl's very existence - while the teacher advises Howie to investigate Rowan's burial plot.

It's here, in looking to exhume the purported body of this youngster, that Neil Howie meets Christopher Lee's charming Lord Summerisle. From the island's de facto ruler, Howie learns of the rituals that keep the Summerisle locale ticking over and of the island's propensity for human sacrifice.

Sgt. Howie tries to make his escape via seaplane, only to find said plane sabotaged, as his toasty fate starts to lurk up on him.
