10 Horror Movie Details You Definitely Missed The First Time

3. The Hidden Classic Movie Monsters - Cloverfield

It's certainly well known that Cloverfield contains a number of hidden details, such as the object falling into the ocean in the film's final moments and the reversed voiceover in the credits which says, "It's still alive."

But one you're less likely to know about? The quasi-subliminal images from classic monster movies peppered throughout the film.

Per its found footage format, the movie occasionally has visual glitches, allowing director Matt Reeves to sneak a few frames from three different creature features in front of the viewer's eyes.

The films are in fact 1933's King Kong, 1953's The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, and 1954's Them!, and while they're incredibly tough to catch no matter how many times you've seen Cloverfield, it's basically impossible to spot them on a first viewing.

Given Cloverfield's clear aspiration to become the next big creature franchise - something it's admittedly struggled with ever since - it's a pretty neat way to pay tribute to its genre forebears.
