10 Horror Movie Franchises With No Bad Movies

4. X

Fear Street Part 2: 1978 Sadie Sink
A24

Ti West's X is a horror movie trilogy that we've only seen two legs of so far, but man, what a two legs it has been!

With some hugely underappreciated films to his name - such as The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers, and The Sacrament - it's great to see West finally getting some wider recognition thanks to X (the movie) and Pearl. Given how phenomenal those efforts have been, complete with West's skill, and with the fantastic Mia Goth doing so much of the heavy lifting, one can't help but expect big things from the in-development final part of this trilogy, MaXXXine.

Of course, MaXXXine could wind up being a mess of a movie, but that seems unlikely. And if this threequel can be even half as good as X and Pearl, we'll have an all-timer of a horror trilogy on our hands.

Released last year through A24, X finds a film crew heading to the Texas farm of elderly couple Pearl and Howard, where the group intend to shoot a porn movie at the farm's guest house. Infused with the grimy spirit of Tobe Hooper's Texas Chain Saw Massacre, our sexed-up young adults soon find themselves at the mercy of their initially-odd-but-harmless hosts, with themes of lost youth and resentment a plenty.

Magnificently, Goth plays both Maxine - the sole survivor of Pearl and Howard's attacks - and the elderly Pearl. For this year's Pearl (the movie), Mia was back as the title character, but this time as a younger version desperate for fame and fortune during World War I.

It's genuinely tough to say whether X or Pearl is the better movie. What's undeniable, though, is that both are already modern-day classics.
