Nine.

There are nine films in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. You know how many of them have above 50% on Rotten Tomatoes? One. And it's the first one.

That first movie was released back in 1974 and it shook the world of film to its core. Its depiction of brutal murder and cannibalism was unlike anything cinema had seen up to that point and it created a trail of controversy that few movies had seen before or since.

Naturally, the discourse surrounding the film led to it becoming extremely popular and it holds up today as one of the most disturbing movies ever made.

It took fourteen years for a second Chainsaw Massacre to get made, but at least that had original director Tobe Hooper on board. After that, things went downhill and fast.

Sequels, reboots, origin stories, the series tried everything to get people to like it and nothing worked. The most recent movie was released on Netflix in 2022 and all that did was remind people how good the original was.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, and indeed every series on this list, serves as a poignant reminder to never ever mess with a classic.
