10 Horror Movie Mistakes You Can Never Un-see

1. Scream

Scream Stu Matthew Lillard

Scream needs no introduction, right?

Near the close of this meta-horror masterpiece, (serious spoiler alert here) the film’s pair of thrill killers Billy and Stu have just finished stabbing each other and are now after our heroine Sidney. Losing her (and a lot of blood), an irate Billy tosses a phone across the kitchen table, smacking Stu straight across the face and prompting the iconic outraged line “You hit me with a phone—Dick!”

Only that’s not scripted, and it’s not Stu talking to Billy.

That’s an actually angry Matthew Lillard yelling at his co-star Skeet Ulrich for unintentionally belting the phone at him, a moment the filmmakers loved enough to leave it in.

Bizarrely, this incident wasn’t the only mistake to plague the filming of the film’s bloody climax. Ulrich’s bad aim might have been down to the fact that a stunt person, standing in for Neve Campbell, stabbed his chest for real with the point of an umbrella whilst shooting the same scene.

On a lighter note, underrated character actor Lillard also improvised the gleeful “I always had a thing for ya, Sid”. It’s an appropriate ad-lib, as he and co-star Campbell were dating at the time.
