Ah, the wendigo. 

Due to its skeletal form and insatiable desire for human flesh, it's easy to see why tales surrounding this mythical stag demon have endured for centuries. Though the wendigo has featured in video games, comics, TV shows, and other mediums, it's hard to think of any incarnation that left a mark like the one in Antlers.

In this body-horror drama, a teacher and sheriff monitor a troubled boy called Lucas, who they believe is being abused by his family. Unbeknownst to them, Lucas is actually protecting the town from his father, Frank, who's turning into a wendigo.

When Frank changes into the nasty brute, it has all the features you'd expect, including a deer-shaped skull, hollow sockets, gnarled fingers, and contorted limbs.

But what makes this wendigo more unsettling is the fact Frank's face is stretched over the monster's head. This minor but crucial detail reminds us Frank is still trapped inside this abomination. Although it's terrifying to see the wendigo go on a rampage, you can't help feeling sorry for it, knowing Frank is just as much a victim as the people he's compelled to slaughter.
