10 Horror Movie Remakes That Were Just Announced
8. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is one of the most iconic horror-thrillers of the 1990s, starring Rebecca De Mornay as a vengeful woman who poses as the nanny for a woman (Annabella Sciorra) who accused her late husband of sexual misconduct.
It's a scandalous premise that's done savage justice by director Curtis Hanson and De Mornay's terrifically entertaining performance, and while it's tough to picture such a tricky concept flying with audiences today, a remake was announced last September regardless.
Michelle Garza Cervera (Huesera: The Bone Woman) will direct a script from Micah Bloomberg (Homecoming, Sanctuary), but the real kicker here is the cast.
Scream queen Maika Monroe will play the villainous De Mornay role this time around, while Mary Elizabeth Winstead will portray Sciorra's protagonist. That's quite the enticing pairing given Monroe and Winstead's strong prior work in the genre, and if the filmmakers can retain the original's delicious edginess while giving it a modern lick of paint, this could very well be a rock solid retelling.
