10 Horror Movie Remakes That Were Just Announced

7. The Mummy

The Mummy is one of the oldest and most iconic horror IP in existence, and though 2017's Tom Cruise-starring reboot was a flop in every possible way, it was only a matter of time before another remake was put into production.

Last December, Evil Dead Rise's Lee Cronin was indeed confirmed to be serving as writer-director for a new take on The Mummy, while Blumhouse's Jason Blum and filmmaker James Wan (Saw, Insidious) will produce.

Given the companies involved, it seems highly likely that Cronin's film will be a lower-budget affair, more in the vein of Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man and Wolf Man movies, rather than the pricier Mummy tentpoles starring Brendan Fraser and Cruise. Shooting began mere days ago, with Jack Reynor and Laia Costa confirmed to be leading the cast.

Considering the stellar job Cronin did on the latest Evil Dead, there's a very good chance he breathes some much-needed life into this dusty corpse of a franchise.
