10 Horror Movie Remakes That Were Just Announced

5. Creature from the Black Lagoon

Over the last four decades, there's been astonishing persistence to get a remake of 1954's Creature from the Black Lagoon produced, with various attempts being mounted by the likes of John Landis, John Carpenter, Peter Jackson, Ivan Reitman, Gary Ross, Guillermo del Toro, and Breck Eisner.

But last year, James Wan was confirmed to be developing the next attempt, and given that Wan will be doing so under his own Atomic Monster production company, which merged with horror giant Blumhouse last year, this one looks like it will probably stick.

Here's a remake that certainly makes sense, as Creature from the Black Lagoon is over 70 years old and looks rather silly by contemporary standards. Plus, given Wan's penchant for taking absurd concepts and rendering them pulse-quickeningly intense, he's about as inspired a pick as you're going to get for this.

Casting remains a mystery for now, though when another version of the film was being kicked around in 2020, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans were rumoured to be in talks. If anyone can make that happen again, it's James Wan.
