10 Horror Movie Remakes That Were Just Announced
4. Idle Hands
Idle Hands was a critical and commercial flop, the latter a result of the film releasing just 10 days after the Columbine High School massacre.
Given its subject matter of teen violence - revolving around a young man (Devon Sawa) whose possessed hand gets a murderous mind of its own - Idle Hands was more or less buried on release, though over the last quarter-century has developed a sizable cult fanbase on home video.
Last November, a remake was announced to be in development, with actors-turned-filmmakers Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk set to pen the script and possibly direct, while Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan will co-produce alongside original producers Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd.
Much like The Faculty, though, Idle Hands is so thoroughly a product of its era that it's difficult to picture a remake nailing the same zany slacker vibe. Reitman has said that Wolfhard and Bryk have developed a "completely original take" that "captures a disaffected generation," but the original is so fiercely loved by horror fans that this redo is facing quite the uphill struggle from the jump.
