10 Horror Movie Scenes Worse Than Death

7. Visited In The Night - Verónica (2017)

Directed and co-written by Paco Plaza, Spanish supernatural chiller Verónica sees the eponymous teenager (Sandra Escancena) become terrorised by malicious spirits after a seance goes wrong at school. What makes this film especially creepy is that it's based on the tragic real-life story of the mysterious death of a teenager in Madrid.

Although this premise isn't anything new for the genre, Plaza's film stands out from the rest of the supernatural horror crowd thanks to its vibrant personality and genuine sense of dread.

There are plenty of creepy scenes throughout this flick that will have viewers thinking twice before turning out the lights, but none are as traumatising as the scene in which Verónica is visited by one of the spirits at night.

After a loud thud wakes her, the teenager discovers her younger siblings hiding in her closet. It's soon revealed what they're hiding from when she turns around to see a naked man menacingly whispering her name. It's an incredibly unsettling image, which only gets worse when the teenager is pulled onto her bed and attacked by ghostly hands.

It's easy to understand why this film was dubbed the scariest film on Netflix after watching this scene.
