9. Spiral: From The Book Of Saw
Personally, I wouldn't have chosen Chris Rock as my go-to guy for a Saw movie, but hey, what do I know?
This whole venture can actually be accredited to Rock himself. After meeting one of the big boys from Lionsgate at a friend’s wedding, he pitched a new iteration of the franchise to them.
Rock claimed that there are so many films that he believed could’ve been improved with a little bit of comedy, and this is something he would be taking with him into production - so Lionsgate decided to bite.
With some of the traps in previous Saw films being hilarious just by virtue of how ridiculous they are, Rock really could be onto something with injecting a little more humour into things.
The official synopsis gives little away about the finer details of the film, but we know this much so far: police start investigating a string of murders that seem suspiciously similar to those of the past films, and inevitably end up getting sucked into the game all over again.
Looking at some of Rock’s past work you could be concerned that the tone won’t hit right to sit alongside previous Saw movies - but maybe, just maybe, he could bring something new and pretty exciting to an aging franchise.
