10 Horror Movie Sequels That Are Just As Good As The Original
2. Evil Dead 2 (1987)
Alongside Dream Warriors, horror-loving audiences were also treated to Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead II, the sequel to his cult-favorite The Evil Dead, in 1987. This comedy-horror hit is not just surprisingly great, but is also often considered an improvement on its predecessor.
With a bigger budget, higher production values, and even more blood-soaked horror, Evil Dead II stars Bruce Campbell as the perennially cursed Ash Williams, who once more has to battle demonic forces unleashed by the Book of the Dead.
While Evil Dead launched Raimi’s career, the sequel cemented his position as a creative visionary (let’s just forget about Spider-Man 3), and remains a favorite amongst his fans.
Utilising a creative blend of physical comedy, iconic performances (Bruce Campbell’s facial expressions deserve a film of their own), and some surprisingly unsettling stop-motion animation, this sequel deserves its reputation as an 80’s cult classic.
