4. Red Eye

In Wes Craven's underrated gem Red Eye, hotel manager Lisa Reisert is making her way through the airport when she has a chance encounter with a charming stranger, Jackson Ripner. When Lisa learns the two of them are sitting next to each other on the flight, it looks like they're fated to be together.

However, Jackson quickly reveals he's a terrorist who intends to assassinate a US Deputy Secretary. He orchestrated events to sit with Lisa so she can use her connections to move the Secretary to a hotel room where it'll be easier to target him. If Lisa doesn't comply, Jackson vows to have her father murdered.

Although Red Eye is a psychological thriller, the teaser suggested otherwise. In one particular shot, Jackson's eye flashes red, indicating he's some sort of demonic entity.

Jackson is eventually revealed to be a nasty piece of work, but there's nothing paranormal about him.

Fortunately, the final Red Eye trailer made the premise clearer. Unfortunately, anyone who saw Red Eye without watching that particular trailer got a very different experience than what they expected.
