10 Horror Movie Villains With The Worst Motives

4. Dr Lawrence Gordon - Saw 3D

There's Someone Inside Your House

By the time Saw 3D rolled around as the seventh entry in just six years in 2010, the series was on its last legs. The plotlines had become increasingly convoluted and the gore behind the traps had lost their shock factor.

Well, for what was meant to be the franchise's big finale, Lionsgate decided to bring back a character not seen since the first movie: Dr Lawrence Gordon. At the end of Saw 3D, it is revealed that, after cutting off his own foot at the end of the first film, Cary Elwes' character had been working off-screen as Jigsaw's apprentice. He is tasked with protecting Jill, Jigsaw's wife, and when Hoffman kills her, he kidnaps him and locks him in the same bathroom that housed him for the entirety of the first film.

Elwes' pay disputes explain why Dr Gordon was absent from the series all this time, but his sudden reveal at the end of Saw 3D is one of the most jarring moments in a franchise known for its complex storylines. What's more, there is absolutely no logic behind why this character who was tortured and permanently crippled by Jigsaw would suddenly find himself as his secret loyal apprentice, especially after his death.
