10 Horror Movies Hiding In Plain Sight

1. The Treatment

Director Hans Herbots adapts Mo Hayder’s crime novel of the same name and, much like Hayder, is completely and utterly unapologetic in his depiction of human depravity. The Treatment is one of those rare movies that genuinely feels like it is trying to break its audience. Not with torture or gore, as the film is relatively bloodless, but with simple man made evil.

A detective with a traumatic past is tasked with tracking down a violent child predator. During his chase, he learns more about what happened to his brother who was taken by a pedophile when they were young. Cheery right?

This is a story about a vile subject matter and Herbots pulls no punches. Whatever bad thing you think is going to happen, it will turn out to be much worse. Which is oddly a positive thing. When dealing with a subject as morally bankrupt as The Treatment does, it needs to be shown as horrifying as the reality it's based on or else it just isn't doing the job right.

The Treatment is sickening masterpiece that shows the absolute worst of humanity. There is no light to be found at the end of its tunnel. It is pure, unfiltered bleakness that warrants much more than a trigger warning.
