10 Horror Movies Hiding In Plain Sight

2. Greener Grass

Hell. That is the one word that comes to mind when thinking about Jocelyn DeBoer and Dawn Luebbe’s Greener Grass. This movie is Hell, or as close to it as a work of fiction can get.

Describing the plot is difficult as it’s less focused on story, and more on using every single second to be as unnerving as possible. The film follows two mothers in a version of suburbia that would make David Lynch himself feel uneasy competing against each other for social status. A boy also jumps into a pool and turns into a dog at a point too.

There is no rhyme or reason for anything that happens in Greener Grass. From hair that bleeds when cut to a child’s soccer field turning into a literal graveyard, the amount of unholy weirdness here is astronomical. It's almost like the sole goal of its existence is trying to make whoever is watching it want to take a shower as soon as possible.

It's supposed to be a comedy satirizing American complacency, and while there are a ton of great jokes (the dog one for instance) laughter comes more from a place of trying to cope with what is going on in front of your eyes. The human brain just simply wasn’t made to endure this much weird.
