In Speak No Evil, Bjorn, Louise and their daughter Agnes are on holiday when they befriend a Dutch couple, Patrick, Karin and their mute son, Abel. When the Dutch couple invite Bjorn's family to their home for the weekend, his exact words to his wife are, "What's the worst that could happen?"

We find out later the answer is "a lot".

While staying at Patrick's abode, Bjorn's family become agitated by their hosts' subtle antagonism. Although Patrick and Karin aren't directly aggressive (at first), Bjorn and Louise can't shake the feeling they're in danger.

Over time, Bjorn discovers the Danes are murdering couples so they can kidnap their child and pass him/her off as their own. After that, they cut the kid's tongue out (as they did with their "son", Abel) so he/she can't spoil the surprise for the psychotic pair's next victims. Patrick and Karin then chop off Agnes' tongue before stoning her parents to death.

Do you know what the worst thing is? Bjorn's family could've got away. Halfway through the movie, the family realise something is wrong with Patrick and Karin, which encourages them to leave. But when Agnes can't find her teddy, Bjorn returns to the house to find it, sealing his family's fate.

But it gets worse. The teddy that Agnes lost... was in Bjorn's car. If Agnes found it, her parents would've avoided an unbearable death.
