Any horror film under the label “torture porn” has likely gained notoriety. From the mainstream outings of the Saw series and Hostel to the far more extreme examples of Grotesque and Borderlands, these bloody flicks can be some of the hardest films to sit through – but at least we know that the torture and gore is fake, right?

In the case of 1985 Japanese short film Guinea Pig 2: Flower Of Flesh And Blood not everybody was convinced the torture was all part of the act.

Written and directed by horror manga artist Hideshi Hino, this sequel’s premise revolves around a man dressed as a samurai (Hiroshi Tamura) who kidnaps and methodically dismembers an unnamed woman (Kirara Yugao).

While the film (alongside the rest of the Guinea Pig franchise) is renowned for its realistic gore and grimy aesthetic, it’s perhaps best known for being the film actor Charlie Sheen believed to be a genuine snuff film. The story goes that Sheen was given a copy of the film to watch by critic Chris Gore in 1991 and subsequently reported it to the FBI after being shocked by what he saw.

It's not hard to see why so many were sickened by this film.
