A remake of a ‘50s B-movie, 1988’s The Blob is an underrated horror gem. The plot revolves around Kevin Dillon’s incredible mullet facing off against sentient carnivorous Jell-O in a small American town.

The movie features fantastic special effects which hold up just as well today as they did 28 years ago. The titular blob dispatches residents of the small town in such violent and gruesome ways that you would think that you’d be prepared for the death of one of the town’s younger residents.

The movie sets up the blob as an indiscriminate killing machine, absorbing and dissolving anyone and anything that gets in its path. But nothing can prepare viewers for the shockingly disgusting death of annoying pre-teen Eddie Beckner. Partially consumed, Eddie’s sunken skull can be seen through the translucent pink goo of The Blob as he reaches desperately for help. Tough break, kid.
