Yet another Stephen King adaptation, this film centers on a young family who move from Chicago to rural Maine. Once there, the family befriends their elderly neighbor, Jud, who shows them the creepy pet cemetery in the woods behind their new house.

When the daughter’s cat is run over and killed, Jud instructs the family patriarch, Louis, to bury the dead animal in an area of the woods behind the pet cemetery. Louis does what he is told and the next day his daughter’s cat has come back to life. The cat isn’t the same however, as it is aggressive and moves with a peculiar gait.

The same road that claimed the family’s cat eventually claims the family’s youngest, a toddler named Gage. The scene involves a picturesque barbeque, wherein the family is distracted and the little boy begins chasing after a runaway kite. His father Louis notices that Gage is about to run into the nearby street and feverishly chases him down as a massive eighteen-wheeler careens down the road. Louis' attempt to save his boy is futile. The huge truck runs the boy over as audiences watch a single, tiny blood stained shoe skip across the pavement in slow motion. The death of someone as young and innocent as Gage is absolutely gut wrenching, especially if you’re a parent.

Of course Louis buries little Gage in the magic zombie soil and the kid turns into a homicidal maniac, but that still doesn’t make this scene any easier to watch.
