10 Horror Movies That Deserve A Reboot

4. Cube (1997)

Released in 1997, sci-fi horror Cube saw a group of strangers find themselves trapped in a labyrinth of interlocking cubes. Stripped of their memories, they must work together to find a way out, avoiding elaborate death traps along the way.

While this flick delivered some inventive kills years before Saw popularised death traps, the main source of tension stemmed from the survivors' precarious relationships, which gradually unravelled as their situation grew increasingly desperate.

After establishing itself as a cult hit, sequel Cube 2: Hypercube introduced more intricate traps while prequel Cube: Zero gave viewers a glimpse at the goings-on outside of the contraption. While the later instalments built upon the central premise, their increasing silliness, reliance on revealing too much of the original's mystery, and overall lower quality led to their poorer reception.

Aside from a lukewarm Japanese remake in 2021, there haven't been any further instalments in this series since 2004. With the tantalising premise continuing to draw horror fans to the 1997 classic, a more grounded reboot that returns to its character-driven conflict and digs deeper into the philosophical themes that were touched upon in the previous outings would be welcomed with open arms.
