10 Horror Movies That Deserved To Become Cult Classics (But Didn’t)

Tales from the Crypt (1989) was a popular and now iconic horror-comedy anthology TV series, which ran on HBO for seven years and was based on the classic pulp-horror comic series from the 1950s. Each macabre tale was tied together and introduced by the infamous skeletal Crypt Keeper, and the success of the show saw a three-movie deal struck with Universal Studios.

Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight (1995) was the first film, and although the most memorable, it still did not land with the kind of cult appeal the producers might have hoped for. Still, Demon Knight is an enjoyable and humorous horror which does everything you would have expected it to, in extending the tone and feel of the TV show into a feature-length story. Billy Zane (Dead Calm) stars in the role of The Collector, a powerful Demon who is in pursuit of a mystical key containing the blood of Christ, which in his hands will bring chaos and disorder to the world.

The movie also features an impressive heavy metal soundtrack, with the likes of Pantera, Megadeth and Machine Head all supplying songs which should have added to the impact of the film and its cult-ability. But this is another movie that has slipped into the ether over the years, and it failed to ignite the Crypt series on the big screen as it was expected to.
