Let the Right One In is a brilliantly original vampire movie, centered around the burgeoning relationship between vampire Eli (Lina Leandersson) and young boy Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant).

Though the film admittedly doesn't tell us a whole lot of concrete information about Eli's backstory, they are shown to be reliant on their minder Håkan (Per Ragnar) for fresh blood, requiring him to kill random passersby for Eli.

Eli will also take matters in their own hands when necessary, killing randomers for sustenance. Obviously this is pure survival for Eli, but there surely comes a point when one struggles to justify the growing pile of bodies any longer.

More than any other vampire film, Let the Right One In shows the kills to be awkward and clumsy, which must surely only add emotional baggage to the knowledge that your existence is reliant on the deaths of so many others.

Nobody can say for sure if they'd willingly lay down and die to end their hunger once and for all, because the motivation to live - especially when you're functionally immortal - is so strong.

It's entirely possible you'd eventually become numb to the murder and simply see it as an unfortunate inconvenience, which represents a whole other kind of spiritual death itself.
