10 Horror Movies That Had No Right To Be This Good
7. Dead End
Christmas and horror tend to go about as well together as an open fire and your kids' favourite teddy bear - unnoticeable at best but a flaming disaster at worst.
Seeing a decent scary movie set in the holiday period is about as rare as a Santa Claus sighting, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Dead End is a great example of seasonal horror done right - even if it is a little eccentric.
The film follows the Harrington family as they venture off on a road trip to see the in-laws on Christmas Eve. After taking a shortcut, they end up stuck on a terrifying haunted highway where they are each picked off and killed. They fill their time by trying to solve the mystery and bickering like any dysfunctional family would.
Dead End is a compelling tale that makes you cringe as much as it freaks you out, thanks to the awkward family tension. The Harringtons feel entirely authentic, turning the tragic circumstances into an utter nightmare. Still, don't fret, as the jolly spirit of Christmas is still there, with some zany and surprisingly dark comedy chucked in for good measure.
It's a haunted Christmas road trip movie that's way better than it should be.
