10 Horror Movies That Had No Right To Be This Good
6. One Cut Of The Dead
On paper, this film has everything going against it. It's a mash-up of found-footage and typical filmmaking, a jarring hybrid of comedy and horror, and its non-chronological story could alienate some viewers. Plus, even for an indie movie, a budget of $25,000 is minuscule. So, with all that to work against, how is this film so damn good?
One Cut Of The Dead follows as a filmmaking crew is attacked by zombies while making their own zombie flick. But that's just the film within the film, as the movie is really about the filmmakers making that movie, with only one take allowed. It sounds confusing, but it works perfectly.
Ultimately, there's just so much to love here. The goofiness of the concept is effortlessly entertaining, and the characters are also a tonne of fun. But, don't expect anything too scary, as the film's primary focus is comedy. Thanks to this, it's no surprise that the movie managed to make back over 1000 times its budget, even if said budget was so teensy.
It's a movie that should be as schlocky and ridiculous as the zombie movies it's parodying, yet, its heart, comedy and creativity make it an underrated gem.
