10 Horror Movies That Pissed You Off Straight Away

5. Halloween (2007)

We love Rob Zombie, we really do. And yet few people have done more to casually tarnish the good name of horror in the past two and a half decades than he.

Zombie’s totally unwarranted Halloween remake ditched all previous chronology for another crack at John Carpenter’s 1978 original, updating it to white trash modern and sending Michael Myers (Tyler Mane this time around) on a bloody tour of Haddonfield that had loads of blood but none of the previous film’s suspense. And the issues start right at the beginning.

Rather than opening his film on child Michael murdering his sister on Halloween, Zombie takes his time, giving us a sizeable introduction to blonde-haired, baby-faced Michael (Daeg Faerch), his home life and his school life. He successfully rationalises all of Myers’ actions and somewhat successfully humanises him before moving on to the kills - this time many, and most as an act of spite.

But for we fans of the franchise, this misses the point of Halloween altogether. Michael is supposed to be mysterious, he is supposed to be unknowable, and he is supposed to be supernatural.
