10 Horror Movies That Really Needed A Better Villain
5. Insidious
Insidious is a pretty damn solid horror flick for the most part - that is, until it drops any and all subtlety and gives us a prolonged, up-close gawk at its primary supernatural antagonist, the Lipstick-Face Demon (Joseph Bishara).
Though there's a famously pant-filling glimpse of the demon earlier in the film that benefits from how fleeting it is, all the built-up creepiness crumbles to dust when Josh (Patrick Wilson) enters the purgatory realm known as The Further to save his young son Dalton (Ty Simpkins).
The resulting sequence is less a creepy trek through the horrific entity's lair than a stupendously silly waltz through your local funfair.
The numerous lingering looks at the demon make its resemblance to Darth Maul that much more clear, not to forget the goofy shots of it sharpening its nails and staring through a magnifying lens while doing so.
We love you James Wan, but this turned out so much more comical than you intended.
