10 Horror Movies Which Insult Your Intelligence

2. Alone In The Dark

Alien Covenant
Lionsgate

Based on the video game of the same name, Uwe Boll's Alone in the Dark revolves around psychic detective Edward Carnby (Christian Slater), who's tasked with destroying supernatural forces.

Besides that succinct summary, it's impossible to tell what this movie is about. It's not even clear whether the threat is demons, aliens, interdimensional beings, or something else, and the tone and plot have no resemblance to the video game source material, so this trainwreck can't even be recommended to die-hard fans of the game.

The continuity is all over the place, switching from night to day in a matter of minutes. Corpses on the ground blatantly move, the over-the-top fight sequences look like they were lifted from Street Fighter, and the poorly lit and shot action scenes make it impossible to see what's happening half the time.

But the stupidity doesn't reach its peak until the end. After Carnby defeats whatever he was fighting, the tacked-on epilogue reveals another group of monsters that have never been referenced before attacked his home city, forcing everybody to evacuate.

Although Alone in the Dark was expected to be bad, nobody was ready for this.
