Demand for nostalgia for the 1980s has never been as strong as it is now, with movies and television shows being set in the neon-soaked decade left and right. It's for good reason though - the decade spawned some of the most iconic movies that we still watch to this day because we just can't get enough. The Lost Boys is one of those movies, but the unlikely trilogy it spawned is a prime example of why creating more of a good thing is not always a good idea.

Despite numerous failed attempts to make a proper sequel to the movie, even by original director Joel Schumacher, nothing could get off the ground. Then out of the blue, twenty years later, came Lost Boys: The Tribe, a straight-to-video sequel that was only able to bring back Corey Feldman from the original cast in a main role. It also demonstrates one of the cheapest casting choices ever by hiring Angus Sutherland, the half-brother of Keither Sutherland, to play the lead vampire. The movie was not anywhere near as successful as the original, but it did gross enough through sales to greenlight an even unlikelier third movie.

Lost Boys: The Thirst arrived the very next year, with both Frog brothers returning in a story that features a vampire named DJ X, and more vampire-slaying shenanigans. It's...not very good, and a sad end to a rather limp trilogy.
