10 Horror Movies You Really Wanted To Like (But Actually Couldn’t)

5. Voyage Of The Demeter

Last Voyage of the Demeter
Universal Pictures

Based on a single chapter in the Dracula novel, Last Voyage of the Demeter centres around a crew who are oblivious the Prince of Darkness has stowed away on their ship.

After spending two decades in development hell, it was a relief when Last Voyage of the Demeter debuted.

At least, it would've been if the spooky flick faired well at the box office. Despite only costing $45 million, Last Voyage of the Demeter failed to recoup half that amount.

Annoyingly, its box office failure had little to do with the quality of the film itself. Its title gave nothing away, had minimal marketing, and was released during the Barbenheimer phenomenon, giving Last Voyage of the Demeter little chance of turning a profit. Because it suffered a raw deal, Dracula purists wanted this adaptation to be good.

Although Last Voyage isn't terrible, it isn't great either. Since the premise centres around a doomed crew, there's little tension whether the characters survive or not. Most of the unsettling moments are diluted by CGI fog, which looks laughably fake.

Even though "Dracula on a Boat" sounds enthralling, the end result is anything but.
