10 Horror Remakes You Didn’t Know Were Coming In 2019
8. The Crow
The Original: Despite
the death of star Brandon Lee in a tragic on-set accident just a few days
before filming wrapped and director Alex Proyas having to rely on stunt doubles
and special effects to finish the film, The Crow – itself an adaptation of
James O’Barr’s 1989 graphic novel – was nevertheless praised by critics and
amassed a cult following among fans.
The Remake: Whispers of a remake began a decade ago and since the project has passed through the hands of directors including Stephen Norrington (Blade, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) and F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall, Rings) with the likes of Bradley Cooper and Mark Wahlberg at some point rumoured to be taking the role of Eric Draven.
Things looked up this year when distributors Sony announced a release date just in time for Halloween 2019 with Corin Hardy directing and Jason Momoa playing Eric Draven but any excitement was scuppered earlier this month when both Hardy and Momoa departed the project.
Talk has died down since while Sony presumably scrambles for a new director and star but the 2019 release hasn’t been officially cancelled yet however optimistic it might seem. In the meantime, let’s just take solace in the fact Mark Wahlberg is no longer involved.
