10 Horror Sequels Scrapped For INSANE Reasons
9. Ash Can't Kill Freddy Or Jason - Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash
Due to the box office success of 2003's horror crossover Freddy vs. Jason, plans were soon set in motion for a stakes-upping sequel which threw The Evil Dead's Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) into the mix for a triple threat match between horror icons.
Despite considerable excitement from fans of all three franchises, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash was ultimately cancelled, with the full truth of why only being confirmed by Bruce Campbell last year.
Campbell revealed that though he was initially excited about the pitch, that enthusiasm quickly evaporated when he was told that, due to the conditions of using Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees in the movie, Ash wouldn't be able to kill either of them.
More to the point, Campbell wouldn't have any say in how the three-way fight went down, prompting Campbell to refer to it as "fight by committee." And so, Campbell decided to walk away from the project, citing the excess creative shackles.
As infuriating as it is that this sequel never came to pass, Campbell's reasoning is totally sound, and he probably saved us from an incredibly disappointing follow-up.
Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash did get to live on in some form, though, being adapted into a six-issue comic book released in 2007 and 2008.
