10 Horror Sequels Scrapped For INSANE Reasons
8. The American Political Climate - House of Re-Animator
After the release of 2003's third Re-Animator film, Beyond Re-Animator, plans came together for a fourth, House of Re-Animator, to be helmed by the original film's director Stuart Gordon.
William H. Macy was set to star as a George W. Bush-esque President who dies in office, with franchise hero Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) then being sought out by the White House to bring him back to life.
It's a hilarious concept and one that was undeniably timely given that Bush was still the President of the United States at the time, but House of Re-Animator ultimately fell apart for political reasons.
There was considerable concern about the project getting on the wrong side of the Bush administration when production was gaining momentum in the mid-2000s, and by the time it actually looked like House of Re-Animator could be made, Bush was no longer President.
With Barack Obama now in the White House and the nation having a decidedly sunnier temperament overall, it was agreed that the filmmakers had basically missed their window of opportunity to make the film, and so it was cancelled.
While House of Re-Animator may have lost some of its timeliness, it goes without saying that many fans of the franchise would've wanted to see it regardless.
Instead we're now 22 years and counting without a new Re-Animator, and Stuart Gordon sadly passed away back in 2020.
